Through a selected set of images, Stéphanie Benzaquen will give an overview of the representation of the Khmer Rouge regime in the arena of justice over the past forty years. Taking as focal points the trial of the 'Pol Pot - Ieng Sary clique' in 1979 and the present-day prosecution of Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), I will discuss the changing perception of the Khmer Rouge regime's ideology and criminality in the post-socialist, post-colonial and transitional context.

Stéphanie Benzaquen is an art historian and associate researcher at the Centre for Historical Culture, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. She received her master’s degrees in art history from the Université La Sorbonne Paris I in 1997, and PhD degree from the Erasmus University in 2016. She also works as curator and has organized exhibitions and projects in Israel, France, Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and Thailand.
