One-day workshop during ICAS 11 (16-19 July 2019). Exact date to be determined.

Research programme
'The Political Economy of the Belt & Road Initiative and its Reflections'is the title of a new Joint Research Programme between the Energy Programme Asia at IIAS (EPA-IIAS) and the Institute of World Politics and Economy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IWPE-CASS) in Beijing, China.

The main objective of this joint research project is to investigate the policy, policy tools and impacts of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. By focusing on China's involvement with governments, local institutions, and local stakeholders, we aim to examine the subsequent responses to China’s activities from the local to the global-geopolitical level in the following selected countries in Asia, Africa and the European Union: Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Hungary, the West Balkans and Russia.

Workshop
The first research-oriented meeting with 14 scholars from China and the Netherlands will take place in July 2019, Leiden, the Netherlands, in the context of the 11th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 11, 16-19 July). The exact date of the workshop is still to be determined.
