The integration of urban and rural areas is an important goal in the development of Chinese cities. An important method to promote the integration of urban and rural areas in big cities such as Shanghai is the construction of new towns.

My study will involve both evaluation and case study. Firstly, the project aims to evaluate the level of integration of urban and rural areas in Holland in the past decades. Secondly, it aims to analyze the methods adopted by the Dutch government to promote integration in The Netherlands, focusing in particular on urbanisation policies during 1970s and 1980s.

My project intends to explore the trends of integration of rural and urban areas in Holland and to explore the mechanism and the strategy that Holland adopted in the process. The aim is to provide lessons for cities in China.
